Dog Registration & Fees

Owners of dogs are required to register their dogs and obtain a license in the City of Lawrence. Although dog licenses may be purchased at any time throughout the year, dog licenses are valid from April 1^st through March 31^st of each year regardless of when they are issued.

Registration Fees

Dog licenses can only be issued “in person” and must be registered in the name of the “owner.” The license fee for each neutered dog to be registered is $15. The license fee for each dog not neutered is $50.

Waiver of Registration Fees

The registration fee may be waived for a dog specially trained to lead or serve a blind person, hearing impaired, or handicapped person provided the dog is certified as being so trained and is actually in the service to that person. The registration fee may also be waived for people 65 years of age and over and for dogs who are 12 years of age or older. [City Ordinance section 6.04.060][2012]. Please present all proof and documentation in support of the waiver at the time of registration.

Most Recent Vaccination Documentation

Documentation concerning the most recent rabies vaccination and any neutering performed must be presented at the time of registration. Please obtain copies of any of these documents from your veterinarian.
