Reference Department is the
information center for the library. We make available a large number of
written and online resources to help our customers find the answers they
are looking for.
Our staff has a "hands on" approach to customer service and is always happy to help people navigate their way through what are often confusing information channels. The reference department houses the main library computer lab with twelve public access computers with:.
These computers also offer the possibility of computer program access in dozens of languages including word processing with language specific on-screen keyboards. We also offer classes in introductory internet use free to the public. For more information please come by or call the Reference Department at the main library . Through the library’s reference department, schools, civic groups and community organizations can arrange for tours and special classes. Customers can also take advantage of our genealogical materials in order to research family histories. The Lawrence Public Library is one of 32 member libraries of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium. This consortium was established in order for libraries to share resources. Our reference staff can help our customers take full advantage of this resource-sharing. Ours is an educated and multilingual staff ready to assist all of our customers with any needs and questions they may have. Through the library's website patrons can take practice exams on their computer from home or at the library. Learning Express Library provides a completely interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help patrons, students, and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. You'll get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. Need homework help? Live Homework Help is now available to our patrons. Through the Live Homework Help website students can receive help in math, science, social studies and English. The service is available seven days a week from 3 p.m. through 10 p.m Eastern Time. Spanish-speaking tutors are available in math and science, Sunday through Thursday, 3 p.m. through 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Students in the 4th-12th grade as well as college freshmen can use the service as often as they wish. As a member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium and Information Network, the library provides its patrons access to online databases. These can be accessed from home and in the library.
